Mt. Salem-New Wave Christian Fellowship Church History
Mt. Salem Missionary Baptist Church was founded in 1959 and the first worship services were held in a theater building on West Jefferson in Los Angeles. Later, the congregation relocated to East 52nd Street, near Avalon. The congregation later moved to 8762 Central Avenue in Los Angeles, it's current home.
New Wave Christian Fellowship Church was founded in 2009, for the purpose of ministering to the students and parents of New Wave Academy.
In the summer of 2011, the pastoral leadership of Mt. Salem and New Wave began conversation and prayerful consideration whether a merger of the two congregations would be beneficial to both congregations and their stated goals.
In September, 2012, under the supervision of Rev. George Thomas, Pastor of Holy Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Mt. Salem Missionary Baptist Church and New Wave Christian Fellowship Church merged and became Mt. Salem-New Wave Christian Fellowship Church. The mission of the church is "to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world." The pastoral staff consisted of Rev. Ollie German, Pastor Emeritus, and Rev. Patricia Strong-Fargas as Senior Pastor.
Rev. German passed away in 2014.
